Every morning I try and say the Daily Prayer. It's something I promised to do. I don’t always manage it, but most of the time I do, and the words sink in deeply. Some of those words have taken an extra significance, since moving to Withleigh. What I like to do, first thing in the morning, is to open my curtains, lie in bed and say the Daily Prayer, using my phone, or my iPad - or even the book.

Some mornings I can see the sun just making an appearance, in the far corner of my window. As the sun comes up, slowly the light changes and a rosy glow fills my room. It is truly amazing. And then I say these words: 'In the tender compassion of our God the dawn from on high shall break upon us. To shine on those who dwell in darkness and the shadow of death, and to guide our feet into the way of peace.' (Luke 1: 78-79)

The dawn from on high shall break upon us! God’s love, his resurrection hope and promise of new life have broken upon us. They have broken upon us in the form of Jesus, God's much loved son.  And we remember this at Easter, at Pentecost and every day a new day dawns. It's truly amazing. Perhaps you would like to join me, every morning, whatever time you surface, wherever you find yourself, and think about these words:

Through the heartfelt mercies of our God,
God's Sunrise will break in upon us,
Shining on those in the darkness,
those sitting in the shadow of death,
Then showing us the way, one foot at a time,
down the path of peace.
